1975
Why were Jehovah's Witnesses looking forward to 1975?
Was it something the Society had said? You bet!
It is true, however, that the Society never directly declared that Armageddon would occur in 1975.
But their literature shows that what they did say led Witnesses to believe the 1975 date.
All Witnesses believe in the Bible chronology explained by the Watch Tower.
In the October 1, 1975 edition of the Watchtower, the Society claims that Armageddon will come within 6,000 years after the date of Eve's creation.
In other words, if we add 6,000 years to the date of Eve's creation we will arrive at the date for the end of the world. The Watchtower says there is only one problem - no one knows the date of Eve's creation.
So why were so many Witnesses looking forward to 1975? The answer is that the Society really did give them the date of Eve's creation!
On page 333 of the Society's book Aid To Bible Understanding the Society claims that both Adam and Eve were 130 years old when their son Seth was born.
This means that Adam and Eve must have been created in the same year.
In the Watchtower of May 1, 1968, and page 271, this question is asked: "When were Adam and Eve created?, The answer supplied is "...the same year, 4026 BC"
So now the Witnesses added 6,000 years to 4026 BC and arrived at the year 1975.
There we have it. The Watch Tower Society's record is consistent - 100% of its predictions have failed
