Convention Report
EX-JEHOVAH'S Witnesses, from all over the country, gathered in Walsall to attend the "Witnesses Now for Jesus" convention held in October 1997.
The two day convention, which was held on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th October 1997, was organised by Peter Stanton of the Kingdom Publishers Journal.
Among the speakers were Ray and Dorothy Banks, who gave a short presentation outlining the Watch Tower presidents and their failed prophecies, whilst Ray and Helen Descombes asked "Are Jehovah's Witnesses a destructive cult?"
Ex-Jehovah's Witnesses, who were on hand to give their testimonies, included, Bob Boulton-Lear, a third generation JW, Maureen Reed, Bill Winstanly, Danny Lewis and Linda Birt - who was featured in the BBC2 TV programme "Witnesses for the Prosecution".
Ex-JW Elder, Larry Grant, looked at the Watch Tower Gospel and compared it to that found in the Bible, while one ex-member examined the psychology of the Watch Tower Society, and asked is Big Mother watching you?!
Peter Stanton told Concern that he was delighted with the way the event went.
He said: "It was a total success and I'm thrilled about it all.
"If I'd had my way I would have liked it to go on all week!"
Now Peter is busy organising next year's convention.
He told Concern: "I'm hoping that we will be able to get David Reed, of Comments From The Friends, over from the United States."
